Interviewer: Lovely to meet you. Angelina Jolie: Nice to meet you. Interviewer: What do you think walking down the Dorchester Hotel in London, so you like London? Angelina Jolie: I love London, but I cant stay here because my husband has a problem with antiques so were not staying in this one. I: Why does he have a problem with antiques? AJ: It’s a long and very complicated story (laughs) Narrative: She has a lot of stories, a lot of the a little weird, but she’s fun and as they say in Hollywood, “she's hot”. (Tomb Raider clip). The latest movie is Tomb Raider, it’s a quiet film where not much happens, apart from her character racing across several continents to unlock the secrets of time before evil does. AJ: She's a little nuts, so I think we have that in common. I: You a little nuts? AJ: I think a little, but you know…(laughs). I: A lot of people might say a lot. AJ: A lot of people might say a lot yeah. Narrator: In 21st century style her character Lara Croft is based on a best selling computer game, she's a pinup, cyber chic, if ever an actor was born to play an animation its Angelina. I: When you saw Lara on the laptop did you do a double take and think hey, that looks a bit like me, in fact its uncanny the resemblance. (clip of the making of Tomb Raider) AJ: No, god no, because you…who would walk around wearing those shorts and walk around in that outfit and her breasts…(laughs) Its like most woman, we see that figure and think great, that’s the ideal, that’s wonderful. I: Is she the ideal for you? AJ: NO, she's not my kinda woman. Narrator: In her relatively brief career, 26 year old Angelina has won critical acclaim, 2 Golden Globes and an Oscar for her film Girl Interrupted (clip of Girl Interrupted). That Angelina can act so well should come as no surprise, her father Jon Voight was the original Midnight Cowboy (clip of Midnight Cowboy). The pair played father and daughter in Tomb Raider. So enamoured of Angelina and her achievements, Jon joined out interview to talk about their working together, a moment that left at least one of us tongue tied. I: Jon, do you think Angelina is a bleath of blllallalaaa.. JV: Exactly (they both laugh hysterically), that’s exactly what I thought she was from the beginning. I: What did you think I was gonna ask? Do you think Angelina’s a breath of fresh air for Hollywood? She's there, warts and all; this is me, 100%. AJ: He’s saying how honest I am and outspoken (puts her hand on his hand). JV: Should I answer this? AJ: Yeah. JV: I think Angie is a very vibrant and strong personality. I: Got that X-factor. JV: She's got that thing, you’ve gotta give her the best encouragement, advice, protection…everything. Narrator: Her actor parents divorced when she was a baby and while there was contact with her father, Angelina was a troubled child who wanted to see more of him (Tomb Raider clip). Acting in the film was a way of catching up on lost time. JV: the world became just us, we were thinking about the world so much, it was a great joy. I: You’re very emotional Jon. JV: Yep (looks up and is crying). I: Why does it do that to you so much? AJ: We had such a…(hugs and kisses her father) JV: I'm OK, I can get through this (the both laugh). AJ: I’m just so happy that I’m not crying, you get so happy when you know you're parent loves you so much…now I'm gonna cry dammit…(hits her dad and they both laugh…she has tears in her eyes). JV: it really was like that for us during that time, coz we got the chance to really spend time together…we took very full advantage of it. (Clip of the London premier of Tomb Raider with James, Jon and Billy Bob). N: The London premier of Tomb Raider was very much a family affair. Despite her parents divorce, or maybe as a result of it, this is an amazingly close family. (Clip of her Oscar speech). Accepting her Oscar last year Angelina payed homage, not to the academy, but to her brother, James. Off-stage James and Angelina kissed passionately and immediately their relationship became the stuff of lurid and tabloid gossip. I: Did you feel pressure with your brother James when you kissed him, expressed you love for him and it created headlines? AJ: It did. I: Were you naïve there and think hey, this wont make a headline? AJ: I'm more shocked; I think that the people who thought that should be more embarrassed and uncomfortable. I didn’t think that way, maybe we kissed to long…I don’t know…I know that there is nothing strange between me and my brother. I don’t think that there is a person who believes that me and my brother are in any way sexual together…were not. I never thought that people were gonna take it in a weird way…you know…and the only reason I'm sorry about it is because they messed with the real story which is something beautiful, one about family and love. (Clip of Gia). N: Angelina's honesty is most un-Hollywood like; she has never been less than honest about her relationship with both men and women. I: You’ve loved another woman. You're very open about your sexuality. AJ: Yeah, I was open about it because I learned and I wasn’t looking to be promiscuous or looking to be bisexual. I just suddenly looked at a woman and felt these things that I felt when I looked at a man and I understood and I had a beautiful time loving another person who happened to be a woman. I: Could you fall in love with another woman again? AJ: I met the love of my life. I: And that Billy Bob? AJ: And that’s Billy Bob. (Clip of London premier and talking to Billy Bob) I: What is special about her for you Billy Bob? Billy Bob: She's honest, she's my best friend and she's the first person that really got me. She doesn’t question me one thing or another, at 4 in the morning walking around in circles. N: Angelina's new husband is the equally unconventional actor and director Billy Bob Thornton. They married in a whistle stop ceremony in Las Vegas after meeting on the set of the film Pushing Tin. AJ: When we met we had both lived certain lives, done certain things that are the same and both felt trapped and unhappy and we have set each other free. I: Is he the 100% man in your life, non-negotiable, he is what you always craved. AJ: OH YEAH, OH YEAH (smiles). I: To good to be true? AJ: No, I think we both know were very very lucky. I: And is that Billy Bob there? AJ: And that’s Billy Bob yeah (Touches the tattoo on her arm). I: He's always with you. AJ: Yeah (smiles). I: Are you the sort of woman that would say love, honour and obey? AJ: Yeah, I absolutely obey him, because it makes me to love honour and obey him…its easy. I: Good for you, and he does the same for you? AJ: Yeah. I: I really feel like I can ask you anything. AJ: You can. (More premier clips) N: And how ca I let an opportunity like tat pass, and opportunity to ask about those wild tabloid stories of knives in the bedroom and their obsession with each other’s blood. AJ: The thing is, its true, a lot of its true, we do wear each other’s blood yeah. Id rather have his blood around my neck that $3 000 000 diamonds, I don’t see why that’s weird. I: And at the end of the bed do you have something that you’ve written in blood? AJ: We both have written…ummm…it says “till the end of time” and I gave it to him for Christmas and it was my blood and I framed it and it is just over our bed. Recently he made on for me and so we have 2 different things framed ummm…and that’s just it, it’s kind of a pact…forever. I: It’s your deal. AJ: It’s our deal and it’s beautiful to us. N: They don’t care what others think but they are aware that everything they do sets rumours flying right down to their choice of family pets (more Tomb Raider premier clips) AJ: Billy and I have talked about getting a goat, god only knows what the rumours are gonna be if we get a goat, know what I mean…who knows (laughs, rolls her eyes and shrugs). I: Scared it might eat the rat? AJ: No, the rat had to go. I: Did it? AJ: Yeah, the rat went insane (laughs), not sure why. The rat was smuggled into Canada and ate the hotel room, I don’t know exactly what happened to the rat and they took it to the doctor and they said that it was suffering from stress (more laughs). I: So, being a rat, you and Billy weren’t stressing the rat out, it was just eating the curtains. AJ: I'm not really sure (laughs), but apparently I did something to that rat that just made it unstable. N: Angelina’s onscreen roles have often mirrored her own life before meeting Billy Bob, dark and troubled characters prove to depression and despair (Clip of Girl Interrupted). AJ: I didn’t know if I belonged in this world, I never felt a calm, I couldn’t sleep, nothing was ever enough and I had voices…just couldn’t shut certain things off and when I met Billy I realised there was nothing wrong with me and I could just be free (Premier clip of her a Billy Bob kissing). I: Angelina, do you ever just sit back and think…wow, in 6 years look what I've achieved. AJ: Yeah, but before anything, I think, in 6 years I've somehow grown up to have a beautiful home, I have 2 beautiful step children, I have a beautiful husband and my family is healthy and happy, I'm financially OK and I do what I love for a living. That’s what I think and thank god, how did I get so lucky.
